Here’s our story…
The Word Agency is launched and is quickly selected to provide consultancy services to clients in manufacturing, recruitment and media.
As the COVID pandemic hits the UK, The Word Agency is retained by all clients, helping them navigate a changing world and maximising their opportunities. Our customers now include one of the UK’s biggest media owners and we move to support customers in digital tech.
The year starts fast as The Word is retained by a number of clients working in sports retail, professional services and we undertake the rebrand of one of the most fast growing small businesses in East Yorkshire. With a growing customer base and bigger team, The Word moves into Westwood House, South Cave, a base from which the team are within easy reach of customers right across Yorkshire.
Word of mouth continues to spread and we become partner to a destination marketing company, an agency of choice for a multi-site health care provider and had the exciting rebrand of a Brewery to deliver. We were proud to also support the charity Ryedale Special Families as they relaunched a key fundraising event, smashing their target by 20%. Towards the end of the year we were selected as partner to one of Europe’s premier digital technology resellers.
The Word continues to partner with SME businesses where the owners and leadership teams are ambitious, motivated and hands on. We add the most value to organisations that put marketing at the heart of the business and are clear about what they want to achieve. Nothing is more rewarding to our team than knowing we have made a genuine difference. Meet some of our friendly faces…
Tim founded The Word in 2019. With a background in advertising that started in 2003, he has worked for some of the UKs biggest media companies helping business owners reach their marketing goals. Commercial, creative and fast, Tim loves a challenge and is never happier than when working closely with one of our customers on a new campaign. Away from work, Tim’s into Football, Formula One, Music and cycling.
Sarah is a director of The Word. Formerly head of marketing for East Yorkshire’s biggest radio stations, a successful business owner and prior to that Internal Communications Manager and City Centre Manager for Hull City Council, Sarah is creative, a great organiser and knows how to create first class customer experiences. Away from work Sarah loves to socialise with friends, travel, go to concerts and listen to podcasts while walking with her dog Baxter.
Laura is one of our team of Account Managers here at The Word. With over 10 years marketing experience, including 4 years as a brand manager responsible for global healthcare brands, Laura oozes pace, creativity and passion and loves nothing more than working closely with our clients one their fast moving businesses. When Laura isn’t bossing her numbers or kick-starting new campaigns, she is a mad cross-fit fan starting most days in the gym at 6.30am!
A mad Hull City fan and lover of a hot hatch, Chris is our Digital Marketing Manager.
With over 5 years experience managing paid digital advertising campaigns including PPC and social media, Chris works with our clients to nail an advertising strategy that’s informed by data, targeting the right people, using the right platform and ensuring an effective campaign.
Paul is responsible for graphic design at The Word. From developing brands, to advertising and literature, a new website or artwork for social media, with more than 20 years experience, Paul delivers visuals that pop and helps our clients bring their business stories to life. Away from work Paul is an Arsenal fan which is the cause of the occasional office row (Tim is Spurs!) and if it’s not a game then its escaping the every day into a world of online gaming!
Esther joined The Word in 2021 having worked with Tim and Sarah some 14 years earlier in radio. CIM qualified, Esther’s background in marketing includes Leisure, Education, Agency and destination marketing, working around the world – from East Yorkshire to Southern Australia. Esther “gets things done” and is responsible for co-ordinating the delivery of our client campaigns. In her free time, she’s loving being a new mum to Caleb and occasionally escaping for a spa day and a bit of retail therapy.
Known affectionately as ‘Word Boy’, Mat is our Head of PR and Copy Writing. A journalist by trade, he asks the right questions and writes compelling copy to connect our clients and their customers. Mat has 19 years of experience working across media, local authority, education, health and manufacturing. Oh and he loves a deadline! When not at work Mat enjoys cooking, walking and real ales!
Our world is fast and full on, so to bring a little chill and after many, many requests from the team, Baxter the Bichon became the office mascot… not much could bring a sense of calm and feel good to the office in the same way this little chap does!
